Best Paper Award
For the eleventh time, the journal "steel research international" decorated one of its articles with the Best Paper Award. Since 1995, this award honours the best scientific publication of the annual volume of this leading technical-scientific journal. publication of the annual volume of this leading technical-scientific journal. For the last year 2005 the Editorial Board elected a contribution about developments in the production of grain-oriented electrical steel sheet. This subject was elaborated scientifically by Dr. Rer.nat. Klaus Günther of ThyssenKrupp Electrical Steel, his French colleague Dr. Guy Ligi and two scientists of the Italian research institute Centro Sviluppo Materiali, Giuseppe Abbruzzese and Stefano Fortunati. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dieter Ameling, president of Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl and chairman of Stahlinstitut VDEh, handed over the award during the opening session of the 5th Oxygen Steelmaking Conference EOSC 2006 in Aachen. The scientific advisory board of the journal valuated the work of these researchers as an important contribution for raising competitiveness. Today, grain-oriented electrical steel strips can be produced by thin slab casting as it was proved by them. Further, but not yet fully developed perspectives for shortening the production process are thin strip casting by double-roller equipment and annealing for secondary recristallization in a continuous furnace instead of a time- and energy-consuming box annealing process
